Hokusai The Great Wave

Our friends at Journal.Studio kindly asked if we would assist in creating the physical aspects of a project for an exhibition at the York Art Gallery celebrating Hokusai’s, The Great Wave.

This consisted of a large, multi-station, interactive table for recreating the Great Wave using small handheld printing stamps.  Along with the table we made a display screen that was in homage to the traditional Japanese paper screens, this featured various tools, printing equipment and handmade paper samples.  These were all smaller additional display cases that we placed using hidden fixings.

The exhibition is/was filled with lots of floor to ceiling display banners printed with information and stunning imagery, with these needing to be hung we made the hangers and fixings in order for them to be placed wherever needed.

This was a fun project and beautifully complimented the essence of the exhibition - it was a pleasure to help deliver Journal’s vision.
